Advanced research and scholarship. Theses and dissertations, free to find, free to use.
OATD.org aims to be the best possible resource for finding open access graduate theses and dissertations published around the world. Metadata (information about the theses) comes from over 1100 colleges, universities, and research institutions. OATD currently indexes 5,153,410 theses and dissertations.

Another useful clue is found in the Latin origin of the word – dissertation comes from a Latin word ‘dissertare’ = ‘to debate’.
There are some obvious differences: an essay is relatively short – usually 1500 to 2500 words – and you are told clearly what to do by someone else. For example: Describe and evaluate major theories of globalisation.

Conventional data base management systems are designed for business applications and do not provide the sort of tools required for effective management of algebraic data such as mathematical formulae. An effective information system for the science and engineering environment must capitalize on such structure. The Scientific Information System combines the facilities of data base management with those of symbolic computation using an interface very similar to Query by Example. This paper presents an overview of the system. Algebraic constraint satisfaction plays a crucial role in the overall design and is accomplished through interaction with the Maple Algebra System. SIS opens the possibility of interfacing such diverse tools as automatic query inference systems for relational databases, and algebra systems.
